Intuit QuickBooks: Invoicing Ad
As part of an evolving rebrand for QuickBooks, this project explored how a new system of character illustrations could extend beyond in-product use and into broader brand storytelling. The goal was to create a fully realized ad that not only communicated product value, but also acted as a proof of concept for how these characters could live, move, and perform across marketing surfaces.
My approach combined character rigging, keyframe performance, shape manipulation, and stroke-based animation to bring flexibility and nuance to each moment. This allowed the characters to feel dynamic and expressive, while still aligning with the constraints of a scalable brand toolkit.
The result is a narrative-driven piece that demonstrates how illustration can move beyond static support and become an active storytelling device; helping to communicate product benefits in a way that feels intuitive, human, and engaging.
Art Direction | Motion Design | Animation
Led the project from storyboard through final delivery, defining the visual direction and motion language while executing design, animation, and final delivery.
Illustration and Storyboarding
From the provided library, characters and icon illustrations were narrowed down. I storyboarded moments and experimented with vignettes that would best support the script and story. Each illustration then needed layer optimization and to be prepped for motion exploration in After Effects.
Animation
Once I established how the illustrations would move, through a combination of strokes and morphing color blocks, it was time to merge those moments together. I wanted each of the three vignettes to connect to one another through their shared shapes and colors, which meant finding the through lines within their design and animating those transitions. After those elements were pieced together, I gave the character’s life and a presence through lip syncing and secondary motions within the face and limbs which brought each of the scenes to life.
